LabStats Report Formulas and Terminology

Listed below are terms you may see in reports along with an explanation of what information/formula is used.

Summary Reports

  • Login Count—Total number of logins (individual usage records) that occurred within the selected time frame.
  • Application Count—Total number of applications that reported usage within the selected time frame.
  • Station Count—Total number of stations that reported usage within the selected time frame.
  • Unique User Count—Distinct number of users that reported usage within the selected time frame.
  • Total Usage—Total usage reported for the specified object (User, Group, Station, User Tag or Station Tag) within the selected time frame.
  • Average Usage—Total time used divided by the number of sessions (Total Usage / Login Count)
  • First Login Time—First time a login occurred for the specified object (User, Group, Station, User Tag or Station Tag) within the selected time frame.
  • Last Login Time—Last time a login occurred for the specified object (User, Group, Station, User Tag or Station Tag) within the selected time frame.

Session Reports

  • Start Time—Start time of each individual session (may occur outside of the selected date range or schedule).
  • End Time—End time of each individual session (may occur outside of the selected date range or schedule).
  • Duration—Total duration of the session (End Time – Start Time).
  • Adjusted Duration—Total duration of the session that occurred within the specified date range and schedule (if the session started before the date range, the Adjusted Duration would be calculated from the difference between the beginning of the date range and the End Time of the session).

History Reports

History reports are displayed as a chart. If you download the report to excel, however, you will also see the raw data, which may include some of the following terms:

  • Interval—The selected increment of time your report will be showing data for (hour, day, etc.).  Depending on the report, the data provided may be across the interval (occurring at some point within the specified interval) or at the interval (occurring at the start of the interval).
  • Station Count—Total number of stations reported during each interval within the selected time frame.
  • Login Count—Total number of logins reported during each interval within the selected time frame.
  • User Count—Total number of unique users reported during each interval within the selected time frame.
  • Application Count—Total number of applications reported during each interval within the selected time frame.
  • Percent Utilization—Total time used divided by the total amount of time available (Total Usage/ Total Time Available).
    • For example, take reporting the usage of 10 stations on a daily interval. The total time that 10 stations are available in one day is (10 x 24 hrs) 240 hours. If their total usage is 80 hours, then their percent utilization would be (80/240 = 33%).
    • By default, LabStats treats a day as 24 hours. If your lab is only open 8 hours a day, we recommend using a schedule to specify the open times.
    • This will change the calculation given the total number of hours available for 10 stations will go from 240 hours to 80 hours.
    • If you run the report using your schedule, you will see that your usage/time available is now (80/80 = 100%).  For labs or classrooms that are not open 24 hours, schedules are very important for utilization reports.
