Installation of the LabStats Client allows computers to send usage data to LabStats. Since LabStats will only show data from computers that have the client installed, make sure that you install the appropriate client on all computers you wish to track.
Windows
You can install the LabStats client on a Windows computer either on a single installation basis or by using a mass deployment tool such as SCCM. The client installer and installation scripts are located in your LabStats portal under Admin > Client Installation.
Single Installations
- Download the latest MSI from your LabStats portal.
- Run through the installation wizard. You will be prompted for both the LabStats Customer ID and the Server Address values. Both of these items will be located in your LabStats portal under Admin > Client Installation > Windows > Single Installation. After the wizard finishes, the client is installed and should check in within 1-2 minutes.
- (Optional) Set up Web Tracking. LabStats is capable of tracking websites visited in specific browsers. In order for this to function, you will need to install an extension for Chrome or Firefox. These extensions can be downloaded from the Admin > Client Installation page within your LabStats portal
Mass Deployments
- Download the latest MSI from your LabStats portal.
- Configure an installation package using a Mass Deployment Tool of your choice (such as SCCM). We provide a sample script on the Mass Deploy section of your client installation page that will update itself automatically if you select a special installation option. This sample script needs to have the file path updated to reflect your MSI location and must be run with administrative privileges.
When selecting parameters for installation, the INSTALLVMWARE, INSTALLCITRIX, and INSTALLVDI options are intended for virtual machines that are being accessed by a thin/zero client. If you are not accessing stations using a thin/zero client you will not want to select these options, even if your station is a virtual machine.
macOS
You can install the LabStats client on a Mac computer either on a single installation basis or by using a mass deployment tool such as JAMF. The client installer and installation scripts are located in your LabStats portal under Admin > Client Installation.
Single Installations
- Download the latest DMG from your LabStats portal.
- Mount the DMG on the desired station so that it creates the LabStats volume.
- Copy the installation script from your LabStats portal, which can be found under Admin > Client Installation > macOS > Single Installation and run that in Terminal. After a successful installation, the client should check-in within 1-2 minutes.
- The client will not function correctly if you run the installer directly through the DMG. You need to run the provided script in Terminal so that it includes your Server Address and CustomerID during installation.
- (Optional) Set-Up Web Tracking. LabStats is capable of tracking websites visited in specific browsers. In order for this to function, you will need to install an extension for Firefox. This extension can be downloaded from the Admin > Client Installation page within your LabStats portal.
Mass Deployments
- Download the latest DMG from your LabStats portal.
- Mount the DMG on a station to gain access to the PKG installer.
- Within an MDM of your choice (such as JAMF), configure an installation package using the PKG file.
Copy the installation script from your LabStats portal found under Admin > Client Installation > macOS > Mass Deploy and set that as a post-install step. Unlike Windows installations, this script does not need any editing. After the installation package has been deployed and the post-install step has been run, the station should check-in within 1-2 minutes.
