Hardware Reallocation

When running computer labs, it is inevitable that a computer will become outdated and obsolete or need to be moved to a different location. Downsizing might also necessitate the removal of computers. The Hardware Reallocation Tool helps correctly split the data being recorded so accurate data is always collected. To access the Hardware Reallocation Tool, navigate to Admin, then click Hardware Reallocation (Make sure the hardware reallocation has been physically completed before using the tool).

The reallocation options are as follows:

• Replaced Hardware—Choose this option if computers have been replaced with new or existing equipment.
• Moved Hardware—Choose this option if hardware has been moved from Lab A to Lab B. This leaves the data that occurred in the previous lab alone and starts a new record in the new lab.
• Decommission Hardware—Choose this option if a station is being removed and not replaced.

Replaced Hardware

If machines are being used to replace other machines, an additional step will need to be performed prior to selecting Replace Hardware.

Additional Steps for Replacing Hardware with Existing Hardware

1. Select the Move option in the Hardware Replacement wizard.
2. Select the existing hardware that has been moved to replace previous hardware.
3. Set the date that the move occurred.
   • This will split the station(s) data at that date creating a decommissioned (retired) station that contains all of the historical data from before the date of the move as well as a brand new station(s) with the same machine information to be used for the “replace hardware” step.
4. Select the group (and any tags) that the retired and new station should be associated with. Now the moved stations are considered new stations by LabStats (as of the date of the move), and can be used in the Replaced Hardware path.

Steps for Replacing Hardware with New Hardware

1. Select the new station(s) that replaced old station(s). Identify the station(s) and click Add. When all station(s) have been selected, click Next.
2. Select the original stations that were replaced. Click Choose Station. Double-check for accuracy, and click Next.
3. Select the date the replacement occurred. All stations will be processed on the same date.
4. Decide if the stations will be placed in different labs (for LabStats tracking purposes). Select Yes or No for each station, then click Next.
5. Confirm you understand that the changes cannot be reversed.

If any of the stations are depicted on a map, they will need be to re-added.

Moved Hardware

Select this option to move a station from one lab to another lab. When performing a move, LabStats will split the data. It will leave the data from the previous sessions in the originating group to be pulled in reports, then moves the station to the new group.

1. Select the stations that have been moved. To select stations, click Add. When all station(s) have been selected, click Next.
2. Select the date the replacement occurred. All of the stations will be processed on the same date.
3. Decide if the stations will be placed in different labs (for LabStats tracking purposes). Select Yes or No for each station, then click Next.
4. Confirm you understand that the changes cannot be reversed.

Decommissioned Hardware

Select this option if a station is being decommissioned and there will be no replacement. The decommissioned stations will be removed from view, but the data will still be available via reports. Unless the LabStats client is uninstalled from the decommissioned machine a new fresh station will be created within LabStats shortly after the decommission is completed.

1. Select the stations that have been decommissioned. To select stations, click Add. When all station(s) have been selected, click Next.
2. Confirm you understand that the changes cannot be reversed.
